This year, the MTV VMA is trading its historic Downtown Brooklyn venue at the Barclays Center to instead host outdoor performances all over New York’s five boroughs, celebrating the resilience of the city in what has been a challenging and strange year among the COVID-19 pandemic. WHEN & WHERE YOU CAN WATCH IT
The party starts this Sunday, August 30 at 6:30E/3:30P with the MTV VMA Pre-Show on MTV Canada. The main show starts at 8E/5P and will air live on MTV Canada, Much, E! and CTV2. After the show, you can relive all the excitement on MTV.ca and CTV.ca for clips, highlights and to rewatch the full shows in their entirety. Be sure to catch the MTV VMA Post-Show too, where hosts Nessa and Jamila Mustafa will look back at this year’s huge performances and big winners, airing Monday, August 31 at 10e/7p on MTV Canada and Much.
WHO’S IN IT
This year’s show is jam packed with the hottest names in music. Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande will make it rain with a world premiere performance of their Song of the Year-nominated collab. Miley Cyrus will perform “Midnight Sky” for the first time, and K-pop kings BTS will set the night alight with their debut performance of their first English-language single “Dynamite.”
But the excitement doesn’t stop there—The Weeknd, Doja Cat, CNCO, DaBaby, Black Eyed Peas, and Maluma are also all slated to perform too.
Chloe x Halle, Jack Harlow, Lewis Capaldi, Tate McRae, and Machine Gun Kelly featuring Travis Barker and Blackbear will all take the stage at the Pre-Show. Keke Palmer will be our gracious host for the evening.
